Monte Viso

from €125.00

There are just a couple of mountains in the Alps which stand out and are instantly recognised from a distance. The Matterhorn is one. This is another - Monte Viso or Monviso.

Not nearly as well known as the Matterhorn, Monte Viso stands south-west of Turin near the French border. It's height is 3841m so it just misses out as a 4000er. And probably because of that, it's not on a list to climb by many!

Notwithstanding all of that, it's prominence above the Po valley means that it can be seen from a huge distance away to the north-east and east. Its Wikipedia page suggests that it can even be seen from the spires of Milan Cathedral. Whether it can or not, you get the idea!

I took this photo one misty Autumnal morning in 2022 from nearby my little mountain cabin. For me the scene represented tranquility and beauty. For sure I could have processed the film in colour where, in Bono's words "all the colours bleed into one". Colours being shades of blue. I prefer the split-tone black and white version more here, however, as the eye is drawn more easily to the layers of ridge, mist, mountain and cloud.

And to continue singing with U2,

I believe in the kingdom come

Then all the colors will bleed into one

Bleed into one

But yes I'm still running...
