Window Shutters
So often, the world demands perfection. Scratch and blemish free. Photographs can be judged by their sharpness, their tonal balance, clean edges... Need I continue?
I was driving through some lonely near-forgotten Italian village last year when I stopped to take a break in the piazza for a refreshing ice-cream. Gelato!
Struck by the character of the buildings, some of which had clearly seen better days, I took some time (after my gelato of course!) to wander around and soak in the quiet. To wonder how villages and towns can de-populate so radically. And then I came across some shutters. Weathered and worn. Rusty hinges. A hole in one caused by the rotting planks of wood. But oh - how they spoke.
And reminded me of the Leonard Cohen chorus in his song Anthem
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

DETAILS
Archival pigment print on Hahnemühle William Turner 310 gsm. It's printed, personally by myself, on this amazing paper - one of my favourites!
William Turner is a traditional mould-made watercolour paper with a coating that is ideal for FineArt applications. The white cotton paper does not contain optical brighteners and is characterised by its unique tactile feel and surface texture. The fine yet highly pronounced felt structure of the genuine mould-made paper gives photographs a striking depth and three-dimensional effect. The characteristic feel and structure guarantees extraordinary FineArt prints with artistic flair.
Each print is one of a kind and will vary slightly. Hand-signed and numbered on the back.
